Stepping out of the logistics box” was the topic of the Jong Logistiek Nederlands annual conference, which took place on Saturday, October 7, 2017 in Rotterdam. Mathias Weinmann joined this unique conference in which logisticians were triggered to look at existing problems / challenges with completely new glasses.

I only knew JLN out of our skype meetings with the international ambassadors and the cooperation fieldtrip we had to Denmark in September this year. Before the conference I already recognized that’s a strong and stabilized community with more than 800 members! First of all, for me it was important to get in personal contact with the people of the organisation and to have a feeling on how its structured.

The location they choose was really impressive, its called floating pavilion and its based on the water, during the event there were some ground movements. Therefore, you sometimes had the feeling that somebody behind you is kicking against your chair, but there were just movements of the water.

Out of the logistics box, we were sitting in some kind of a box, the conference topic and the location were matching together.

They put a quite large program together:

11:00 – 12:00: Entry, reception and Lunch with Solventure

12:00 – 12:10: Word of welcome by the organization

12:10 – 13:05: Speaker Hans Dijkhuis (Value Sourcing BV)

13:05 – 14:05: Speaker Jan Minnee (Retourplaza) / Workshop by Inge van Els and Angelique Reiniers (Via Academy)

14:05 – 14:35: Pause

14:35 – 15:30: Speaker Tony de Wolf (National Air Cargo) / Continuation of the workshop

15:30 – 16:25: Speaker Coen Schlüter (Albert Heijn Online)

16:25 – 17:00: Discharge and acceptance speech

17:00 – 18:00: Drinks with Inspired-Talent and Inspired-Careers

I really liked the conference, although the speeches were in Dutch so I had some understanding difficulties. In addition to the speeches there was a parallel workshop and an awards ceremony where members, companies of the year etc. were honoured. In general, I detected some good ideas on how YPL² can learn of events of our cooperation partners and finally improve our event planning. Thanks to JLN for the invitation!
